Go to all the doctor appointments before we lost (USA) health insurance, pack up the apartment, find a place to stay in Amsterdam, book Airbnbs in Norway, book car rental, drive a U-Haul through Manhattan, plan a bachelor party, go to a bachelor party, say hi and goodbye to the family... the list of to-dos was greater than the hours we had.
Between teeth cleanings and consultations with travel doctors to get a concoction of shots to help us out along our journeys, it was time to pack our apartment and move out.
Driving a U-Haul through Manhattan is no joke, especially on a weekday morning through Midtown. Luckily, Makenna didn't have to do any of it :)
We had talked about would be great to pack and certainly did our fair share of online shopping, however Makenna only opened her 70 L backpack for the first time while she was in Ohio and Tyler packed from the hours of 10 am - 2 am the night before our flight. We aren't joking when we say we were a bit of a mess.
Don't let the smiles fool you, our stuff was everywhere and the bags were loosely packed for our first dry run and the photo op.
When it came time for our first official flight, we slept through our morning alarm so it was a quick goodbye before we were off!
There was a steep learning to curve to suddenly carrying 40+ lbs on your back and 20+ lbs on the front. "This bag is making me winded, I'm going to sit down" - Makenna
All this to say, a lot has changed between when we first picked up our keys in September 2021...
...And when we returned our keys in July 2024. One final photo memorializing the paper calendar we used to plan, but mostly just stared at, for 3 months prior to resigning from our jobs.
So here we are, under planned, tired, but more importantly, excited for what's next!
