We officially landed in Buenos Aires and it was time to enjoy the street art and explore!
Dulche de Leche is probably in Tyler's mom's Top 5 favorite things, so of course we went looking for some.
and it wouldn't be Buenos Aires without stumbling along some tango in a town square.
We were told La Cabrera was a must, so we grabbed a resy and enjoyed a classic Argentinian steak. We all agreed that the chorizo was the real star of the show!
Our next stop: Iguazu Falls
We were lucky enough to stay in the national park. While booking, the hotel mentioned how sneaky the monkeys in the park could be and when we checked in, they reminded us again. With fair warning, we were told that everyday around 5 pm, the monkeys walk along the balconies looking for open doors where they can grab a few snacks from the minibar.
Tyler's mom didn't take all the necessary precautions of locking her balcony door, and at 5 pm while we were enjoying the pool, we watched the monkeys walk across the glass and hop into a room. There was a long pause before Makenna skeptically pointed out that those were our rooms. The story ends with a mini bar bill of about $30 and some monkeys enjoying some mixed nuts and a can of coca-cola. We proceeded to watch this each night of our stay, watching in amusement as they raided various rooms.
On our first full day in the park we secured a spot on the jet boat tour to go under the waterfalls. It was in this moment that the entire boat crew started putting on a double layer of waterproof gear...
...and for good reason. In the matter of seconds we were absolutely drenched with the water from the falls
Nothing was going to protect us, not even Tyler's hand.
"Photographic proof that waterfalls release ions that make you happy" - Makenna (a repeated "fact" sourced from her mom)
We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing at the pool and got to spot a toucan flying through the tree canopy.
The next day we stayed above water, walking through and admiring the sheer volume of water flowing throughout the falls.
And a must for Tyler's parents - a visit to the bird park in Brazil.
It was a sad morning when we had to say goodbye after a wonderful time relaxing in Iguazu Falls.
Back in Buenos Aires, we had one more day as tourists and of course visited the Camino & Messi
A city truly full of color.
We ended our time in Argentina with some empanadas that were ~ 1.50 USD. It was fun to watch the owner taking orders and wrapping up boxes of empanadas by the dozen. He noticed our amusement and kindly brought us some flan and dulce de leche which was a perfect way to wrap up our trip.
It was time to cross over the Andes on our way to Santiago, Chile. Makenna was thinking about "Society of the Snow" the entire time.
